Team USA Bus Transports on the 5th and 15th

**********************

Arrival Team USA Bus Transport on Tuesday, 5 March

See at the very bottom of this page the USA Arrivals List pdf.

Arrival Instructions Bus Group #1: aiming for departure at 10:45pm

--> This group includes many (but NOT all) folks already in Oslo (check the arrival lists for your name to be sure!) -- and all people on all flights arriving between 8:15-9:35am on Tuesday.

--> Your group (except perhaps for the 5 people on the SAS Stockholm flight arriving 9:35am) will meet at the Airport Express Coach information desk at 10:15am. See map at the bottom of this page. Also look for other USA folks with bags directly across from where you would come out of customs.

--> Cyndy Flores and Pat van Mullem have volunteered to be the group leaders. They will check names off the list as you arrive near the desk. YOU MUST BE ON TIME IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN OSLO OR YOUR FLIGHT COMES IN EARLY IN THIS TIME PERIOD. This group only has 20 people flying in so the less faces to search for, the easier it'll be to load up!

--> If your flights are delayed and you will miss this bus group entirely OR you just need the group to wait one hour or less due to delays -- PLEASE email your Group Leader Cyndy Flores << Cynthia.Flores@vituity.com >> and also JD << jd at xcskiworld dot com >> asap in your travels! See also the Emergency Travel Scenarios page for more info...
http://www.xcskiworld.com/emergency-transport-scenarios

--> Once all names except the 5 x 9:35am Stockholm flight are accounted for (and it is confirmed that the Stockholm flight has arrived), the group leaders will ask the desk to call the driver and you will be told where to load the bus. The Stockholm flight 5x skiers should hurry out of customs and one USA person will be waiting to meet you to help you find the bus to load.

--> This group has 1 bus with capacity for 57 people plus a luggage truck. All people in apartments should try and load your bags UNDER THE BUS as you will unload at Bergo Hotel in Beitostolen and this will make finding your bags faster/easier. Everyone slated for the Radisson should load your bags in the luggage truck.

--> If anyone flying in has missing bags, quickly follow AXCS instructions (below) so that you minimize holding up the group.

******************

Arrival Instructions Bus Group #2: aiming for departure at 1:45pm

--> This is our biggest arrival group including 9 people in Oslo already (check the lists for your name!) and people on all flights arriving between 10:20am - 12:35pm.

--> Your group (except perhaps for the 3 people on the Lufthansa Frankfurt flight arriving 12:35pm) will meet at the Airport Express Coach information desk at 1:00pm. See map at the bottom of this page. Also look for other USA folks with bags directly across from where you would come out of customs.

--> JD will be the group leader for this Bus Group. Your name will be checked off a list as you arrive near the desk. YOU MUST BE ON TIME IF YOU ARE ALREADY IN OSLO OR YOUR FLIGHT COMES IN EARLY IN THIS TIME PERIOD.

--> If your flights are delayed and you will miss this bus group entirely OR you just need the group to wait one hour or less due to delays -- PLEASE email JD << jd at xcskiworld dot com >> asap in your travels! See also the Emergency Travel Scenarios page for more info...
http://www.xcskiworld.com/emergency-transport-scenarios

--> Once all names except the 3 x 12:35pm Frankfurt flight are accounted for (and it is confirmed that the Frankfurt flight has arrived), JD will ask the desk to call the driver and you will be told where to load the bus. The Frankfurt flight 3x skiers should hurry out of customs and JD will be waiting to meet you to help you find the bus to load.

--> This group has 2 buses with up to 57 people seated in each bus plus a luggage truck. All people in apartments should try and load your bags UNDER THE BUSES as you will unload at Bergo Hotel in Beitostolen and this will make finding your bags faster/easier Everyone slated for the Radisson should load your bags in the luggage truck.

--> If anyone flying in has missing bags, quickly follow AXCS instructions (below) so that you minimize holding up the group.

******************

Arrival Instructions Bus Group #3: aiming for departure at 5:15pm

--> This is our smallest group consisting of just 13 people arriving on flights between 2:40pm - 4:15pm.

--> Your group (except perhaps for Odd Osland arriving at 4:15pm from Amsterdam) will meet at the Airport Express Coach information desk at 5:00pm. See map at the bottom of this page. Also look for other USA folks with bags directly across from where you would come out of customs.

--> Rick Klein will be your Bus Group #3 Leader -- rick.waterborne at gmail. dot com
If your flights are delayed and you will miss this bus group entirely OR you just need the group to wait one hour or less due to delays -- PLEASE email Rick and also JD << jd at xcskiworld dot com >> asap in your travels! See also the Emergency Travel Scenarios page for more info...
http://www.xcskiworld.com/emergency-transport-scenarios

--> Once you have 14 people at 5:00pm and you can confirm that Odd's flight 1147 from Amsterdam has arrived, one person please tell the bus information desk that the JVB bus group #3 from USA heading to MWC in Beitostolen is ready to begin loading. The desk will call the driver and you will be told where to load the bus. One person needs to wait for Odd Osland to come out of customs and lead him to the bus load location.

--> This group has a 19 passenger bus which should just barely fit all luggage. Try and separate bags if you are part of the Bergo Hotel drop-off (meaning you are staying in apartments).

--> If anyone flying in has missing bags, quickly follow AXCS instructions (below) so that you minimize holding up the group.

--> Note About Food For This Group: Your group may or may not have an option to eat dinner at the Radisson when you arrive to Beitostolen. It will depend on how quickly you all can load up at the airport, drive time, and then how fast you unload and check-in. If you make good time (meaning you are in Beitostolen close to 9am) the O.C. lodging coordinator suggests that people dropped off at Bergo Hotel should quickly check-in (get your keys) and then leave bags at the Bergo lobby to quickly walk over to Radisson and try to get some dinner before they close down. Radisson people can probably run bags up to your room and then immediately come down to try and get food. As a fail safe, you are probably wise to pick up a sandwich or other light food at the airport before departure or at the mid-bus trip restroom break.

Missing Bags Instructions

Step #1.) Before you check your bags on the way to Europe, take a smart phone picture of all checked bags. This will greatly help the airlines ID what is missing. You should also have followed the AXCS trip packing advice with all essential skiing/racing clothes plus one pair of boots in a carry-on bag. You can rent/borrow skis, but it's not so easy borrowing your favorite ski underwear!

Step #2.) Print out ahead of departure shipment locations for your lodging once the bags are found.
RADISSON BLU MOUNTAIN RESORT, BEITOSTØLEN
Bygdinveien 3812
2953 Beitostølen, Norway
Tel: +47 6135 3000

-- or --
For everyone in apartments....
BERGO HOTEL Bygdinvegen 3782, 2953 Beitostolen, Norway Tel: +47 61 35 11 00

Step #3.) Fill out the normal airline forms on missing bags with the info above and try to email your smart phone pictures of the bags to the missing bag desk. Please do this process as quickly as possible especially if you are one of the last arriving flights (you will be holding up the group bus departure otherwise).

Worst Case Scenario Instructions

--> If you know your final flight into Oslo will be extremely delayed or you simply missed flights earlier in the journey, please email JD << jd at xcskiworld dot com >> once you have a known scenario.

--> For Bus Group #1 we can have the bus leave with up to 20 people missing so the plan is for that bus to leave as close to on time as possible as long as the minimum number are on board.

--> For Bus Group #2 we will delay the bus departure as long as the bus company allows to try and collect as many of our scheduled people as we can. There is not enough room on the #3 bus for more than a couple orphan skiers so we have to try and get most of our list on board.

--> For Bus Group #3, JD will try and email the entire group if it is known that one or more people will likely be delayed or miss your bus entirely. Check email if someone isn't showing up by 5pm. If you have the majority of your bus group and no word via email on missing skiers latest by 6pm -- your bus needs to depart.

--> The really worst case scenario for anyone is your arrival is so delayed that you miss all USA arrival buses. In this scenario, you will need to arrange to take regional country buses to Beitostolen per the instructions listed at the bottom of this page. You may prefer to stay Tuesday night at an Oslo airport hotel so that you get a good nights sleep and set up the country buses on Wednesday morning so you aren't super jet lagged and exhausted in the process. Please note that due to fixed costs, AXCS cannot refund bus fares if you miss scheduled arrival buses and you are on your own for all extra costs (hotel, country buses, etc.). This is a perfect reason to have travel insurance!

Departure Plan Team USA Bus Transport on Friday, 15 March

The current Departure plan as of Tuesday, Feb 26 (subject to tweaks, but this is the general idea) ....

The March 15 departing Beitostolen-to-Airport group is currently scheduled to depart at 7:00am on March 15. We need to allow 4 hours journey time and we have dozens of folks catching planes as early as 1:00pm -- so need to get to airport by 11am. Folks that want to go play in Oslo will like this schedule. For the Airport Radisson Birken group, JD is asking now for a storage area so that we can store bags at the hotel before rooms are ready for check-in. If anyone was really hoping to get in a Friday ski, you can hop a train for Holmenkollen and really max out your Norway bucket list!

The March 15 departing Beitostolen-to-Lillehammer group is currently scheduled to depart at 8:00am on March 15. No word yet from the bus company on travel time, but the AXCS estimate is 2.5-3 hours.

Please everyone understand that to make the logistics work for affordably moving almost 200 people in two different directions with lots of big bags in tow -- some executive decisions had to be made on our departure schedules.

Individual or Small Group Bus Transport on other days (arrival)
(special thank you to Inge Scheve and B/B Yih for helping prep this info)

First consult the published bus transfers from Gardermoen (Oslo) airport to Beitostølen. You can either input your day/time at https://www.nor-way.no or see page 2 of the PDF schedule -- note that times for March aren't current yet, but at least you can get an idea of when buses run. For most on-line searches, it's best to put in Oslo Bussterminal as your starting point as it'll simplify the search.

It is important and useful to understand that most bus options for the overall route will involve going from Gardermoen to the Oslo Bussterminal via a short train ride before you catch the actual bus. But on Thursday and Friday there is a direct bus from the airport to Beitostølen without going into Oslo first. The direct bus leaves the airport at 5:20pm.

IMPORTANT NOTE: AXCS has been advised by a couple of our members about the following payment items that you should be aware of:
--> Nor-Way (bus system) said the only way to buy the bus ticket is from the driver or online. --> Online is cheaper and the sooner the better in case specific routes are filling. --> Very notable -- the online payment system is not being friendly to US-based credit cards. They do take PayPal payments however. If your credit card payment won't go thru, you'll need to set up a PayPal payment account to get this done in advance.

To get to Oslo Bussterminal, take any train from the airport to Oslo. Note that the regular NSB train costs only half of the airport express train Flytoget, but takes only about 5 minutes longer -- so that is one way to immediately save a few bucks. Get off at Oslo S (Oslo Sentral stasjon) for a short walk to the adjacent bus terminal. You can buy train tickets with a credit card within the airport terminal departure level at convenient self-serve kiosks a very short walk from the international arrivals portal and just above the train platforms themselves. There are also helpful staff around if you get stuck on something.

For the overall bus journey, you want from Oslo Bussterminal, taking Valdresexpressen NW161 to Beitostølen. There are several departures on this route a day, the first at 8:40am (arrives Beitostølen at 12:37) and the latest at 7:05pm (19:05) Mon-Sun.

Make sure that when you select your bus destination, you pick Beitostølen as the final stop -- do not opt for Beitostølen helsesportsenter as that stop is 2.5 kilometers southeast from the main village.

Note that the bus route out of Oslo Bussterminal will have an easy transfer to another bus in Fagernes that takes you the rest of the way -- about 40 minutes total from Fagernes to Beitostølen.

Buy tickets online at nor-way.no, for the best fare and confirmed seat.

Individual or Small Group Bus Transport on other days (departure back to Oslo/Gardermoen or Lillehammer)

Follow the instructions above regarding looking up schedules/fares on https://www.nor-way.no from Beitostølen to your destination on the day you select.

The fall schedule for Beitostølen to Lillehammer buses are.....
Leaves from Beitostølen daily at 2:45pm (14:45) arrives in Fagernes at 3:27pm (15:27). Transfer to bus NW162, which leaves at 3:33pm (15:33). Arrives in Lillehammer at 6pm (18:00)

You can opt to wait until we are in Beitostølen to actually buy your tickets for an outbound journey until you can talk with the very helpful tourism office located in the middle of the village area. Those folks may have some suggested routing (perhaps a more scenic route?) that isn't apparent on-line.

Paying For USA Charter Buses

AXCS has priced all bus rides at $42 per person/per ride. Everyone needing bus rides should now pay the total cost of all rides you need for the trip. Please do this as soon as possible.

Step #1.) Figure out how many bus rides you need to pay for.

Example A: Single person taking AXCS buses in two directions (airport to Beito on March 5, then Beito to Lillehammer or airport on March 15) = 2 rides. Cost = $84 total.

Example B: Mr and Mrs Smith -- 2 rides to Beito + 2 rides back to airport = 4 rides. Cost = $168 total.

Step #2.) Click on the PayPal button below. Put in your TOTAL COST from your # of rides x $42 per person/per ride. You do not need to add processing fees. You are only going to process one transaction so you need to total up your full ride cost (total cost all rides for you and/or significant other) and only put in that total amount x 1 transaction.

Step #3.) Process the transaction selecting from the debit/credit card button (or you can use a PayPal account if you have one).

Important: The Birken Extension people staying at the Airport Radisson that will be taking the Saturday, March 16 Birken race day bus from Airport Radisson to Rena Birken Start -- all of you need to add $46 per person to your total (above directions) for that race day bus.

Worst Case: If these directions confuse you or you simply can't make it work, email JD << jd at xcskiworld dot com >>.

Important Tip:
When you click on the Pay Now button above you will be taken into an interface page to put in the total cost of ALL your rides. Do that and then hit continue.
On the second page of the interface you will see the screen shot below. If you want to pay with a debit or credit card you have to click on the button circled below in order to get to a normal card info and contact info fill-in page.

Stay tuned to Team USA Email Updates for more info on bus charts and schedules.
