NM2007 - Team CompetitionNote: Click here for information on the rules for selection to the hononary, overall U.S. Masters Team which is entirely separate of the NM Team Competition described on this page. Essentials -- Cost and How To Enter A Team The team competition is free...no additional fees! IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL TEAM ROSTERS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY CLOSE OF REGISTRATION HOURS ON MARCH 21. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! To enter, send an email to the AXCS National Office (axcs at xcskiworld.com) on or before 5pm PST on March 21, 2007 or physically turn in your roster at the March 21 opening registration reception. Your entry should be on one (1) piece of paper and should clearly list the following: team name (required)...category (two choices, listed below)...names and age categories of all team members...and contact information for the team leader (where the leader is staying during the NM2006 and phone #). ------ Start getting your ski buddies together to form a club team at the 2007 National Masters nationwide season ender in Bend/Mt Bachelor, Oregon. It doesn't matter what your age or ability, just like a high school or college team race, everyone on the team makes a difference no matter where they place! Even gender doesn't matter as coed and same-sex teams compete head-to-head. The team competition is in addition to individual placings and does not involve any added registration fee! The Scoop * NM2007 official teams consist of anywhere from 4-6 individuals with the best 4 placings counting towards team scoring. Teams can consist of any age/sex combo...but you must have at least 4 bodies (preferably live bodies) to count! * All official teams must consist of skiers that are members of the same local or regional ski club/association and/or live within 50 miles radius of one another. Industry and corporate teams are welcome to take part (although we've not had a ton of interest previously), but these teams will not count in the club standings. * Scoring is same as in XC running...low total wins. Each team member is scored based on their place within their particular age/sex category. Points are awarded 1 point for first, 2 points for second, and so on to the final finisher in that category. No points are awarded for DNS or DNF skiers...ya gotta start and ya gotta finish to count! * All three individual races are used to determine the team champions with a modified system for the Skiathlon/Relay race day. If your team does not have four individual finishers in the Thursday Skiathlon, the best two-person relay duo will be used at "relay value" (2 points for 1st, 4 points for 2nd, 6 points for 3rd, and so on) will be used to make up your total of "four finishers". Example: Malibu Nordic Club has individual results of M4-8th place (8 points), F5-10th place (10 points), and F3-3rd place (3 points) plus a two-person relay finish Coed-4th place (8 points)...total for skiathlon day would then be 29 points. If the Malibu team had a fourth individual finisher, that person's point total would be used instead of the relay finish. If Joe's team only had two individual finishers, the relay finish would have counted as two individuals (i.e. 2x 8 points in the example above). * First tie-breaker best total to 5 skiers using all races, second tie-breaker best total to 6 skiers using all races. Teams with 5 & 6 skiers win against those without...regardless of place! If all tied teams did not have additional skiers then a true tie is called. * Skiers can compete for a max of one (1) team. They cannot be scored in more than one category. The official team rosters must be completed and turned in to the AXCS representative at the NM no later than close of registration the day prior to the first competition day. No substitutions will be allowed for any reason once the competition week is under way. Fame And Fortune Up For Grabs? Awards for the top three teams will be given out at the NM2007 Closing Ceremonies following the Sunday freestyle events. In addition, all winning teams will be recognized on xcskiworld.com and the Spring AXCS XC Ski World Digest publication as "National Masters Team Champions". Most important...you get bragging rights over your ski buddies nationwide for an entire year! Can there be any greater reward than that???!!! ------ |
