2013 U.S. Masters XC Ski Team Selection Criteria

  • Points will be awarded per place (using a modified World Cup point system (1st = 25 points; 2nd = 20 pts; 3rd = 15 pts; 4th to 15th = 12 to 1 points) to the top 15 overall skiers in each age/gender individual category in both the 10km classic and 32km freestyle events. For 2013, all age/gender categories will be competing in identical distances for both scored races. The prologue will not be part of U.S. Masters Team selection -- but will be a very fun event to take part in anyways!

  • Skiers aiming for the U.S. Masters XC Ski Team are REQUIRED to enter and complete both individual race distances assigned to your age/gender category. If you elect to race a distance in Saturday's Boulder Mountain Tour that is not the "official" distance for your age group -- which you are free to do if you wish -- you simply will not be eligible for U.S. Masters Team selection. This applies to all age groups.

  • In the case of a tie following the second individual race, the tie-breaker is best overall individual race placings within the age/gender category.

  • Total points from both individual races will be added up in each age/gender category and the skiers with the highest totals given the designation as members of this year's U.S. Masters XC Ski Team. Those named to the Team will be recognized at the final Boulder Mountain Tour awards ceremony on Saturday, February 2.

2011 U.S. Masters XC Ski Team

The honorary 2011 U.S. Masters XC Ski Team was announced on Friday, March 11 at the closing awards in Vernon, British Columbia.

Skiers were named to the team based on the top individuals in each age class in best three of three individual races at the combined 2011 Masters World Cup & National Masters hosted by Sovereign Lake/Silver Star, Canada. A total of 328 USA skiers took part in the MWC2011, making up the largest national contingent to travel outside any given nation in the 31 year history of the Masters World Cup.

Since skiers actually had six races to select from this year, American XC Skiers -- the US national masters association -- faced one situation in the F8 category where two skiers each had perfect triple gold medal performances resulting in an unbreakable (and astonishing) tie situation.

Official Masters Uniform Sponsor Podiumwear has supplied all team athletes with distinctive 2011 U.S. Masters Team head ware.
