The Ultimate “Add-On”: A Second Week Across Finland!

------

The Rajalta rajalle-hiihto (aka Finnish Border to Border) is a week-long groomed track ski trek from the Russian border to the Swedish border. The course runs literally just up the road from Rovaniemi. Start dates are indeed just as the MWC2007 finishes up...making this a great add-on option for skiers that simply cannot get enough skiing!

There are four groups of 100 skiers each in the Border to Border. If you leave in the R4 group (starting the Border2 on 11 March) you will have to skip the Worlds banquet and select the freestyle distance race...but otherwise don’t have to miss any other part of the Worlds. The R3 group (starting on 10 March) is also possible if you opt to ski the Friday MWC freestyle as your last MWC2007 event and leave immediately after the race for the Border start area. Obviously you'd then miss the 10 March closing MWC festivities.

Word that we have as of April 2006 is that the last bus connection on Saturday 10 March seems to be at 15:15 from Rovaniemi arriving at 18:10 in Kuusamo. We assume the same schedule applies on Friday, 9 March as well.

AXCS travel agent Diana Lynn Rau can arrange your flights to add this option. But do not wait as the Border to Border will fill quickly. For it all to happen AXCS estimates that skiers wishing to add this option to their MWC2007 trip will need to book with the Rajalta no later than June/July 2006 as well as locking down a reservation in the AXCS MWC2007 travel group by that time.

You can find more info on the Border to Border via the official event website.
