USA Relay Team Selections + Alternates -- with a few updates

---------------------------------

Fresh Updates: Thursday 10:17pm, March 9

Note that there are additional General Notes For Everyone under these Friday relay race notes!

-- Relay Schedule for Friday....

10:00am -- M1-2, M3, M4 relays start

10:45am -- M5, M6, M7 relays start

10:50am -- M8, M9 relays start

11:30am -- F1, F2, F3, F4 relays start -- note that for MWC relays, women's categories are 10-year groups...so a "F1" relay group is legal teams in the individual F1 and F2 cats (so 30-39 years for base ages).

11:35am -- M10+ and F5+ relays start

---------------

-- Race courses are in your racer fold-out, but basically for all categories except the M10 and F5 cats, it's the normal start and then the meadow the same as the 10km to the road crossing uphill. You climb that road crossing hill, descend towards river, then hook an immediate 180 back to the downhill to the road crossing and back home. So strategically you can totally sell out at the top of the road crossing downhill since it's all glide to the finish line. For the M10 and F5 relays, you will cut-off right before the road crossing -- so your relay legs are actually closer to 3.5km and very gentle :-).

-- All legs will access the stadium via the same transponder check you've used all week. YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR SAME TRANSPONDER. If you already turned your's in by mistake, ask at the Info Desk in the Sports Arena in the morning and they'll dig it out to give back to you.

-- Leg one will start in the same starting lanes as all individual races. Leg 2-3-4 will have their tag zone right where the feed station was for yesterday and today's distance races. The tag zone is 30m x 10m (so big). Try and get tagged at the bottom of the zone so you have plenty of room and your tired teammate doesn't have to ski anymore than necessary. ALL TAGS SHOULD BE HAND TO BODY. The anchor skier for all teams will use the same finish process as all other races.

-- When you tag, try and angle yourself so you will immediately get out of the way of your teammates poles. If you are being tagged, avoid big pole swings until you are clear of your teammate and tag zone traffic. Do NOT push your teammate on the tag. Just tag and get your poles and legs out of the way.

-- IMPORTANT: USA relay bib pick-up is at our USA wax container from 8:30-8:45am. This is for ALL relays. The early time is so that we can "release" our wonderful alternates assuming all the named skiers are functioning and show up. J.D. has one volunteer to help with bib handout. We could use a couple more volunteers. If able and willing, show up at the container by 8:15am -- you'll be done helping before 9am.

-- Weather forecast is a bit of a lot of stuff tonight with temps around +1C (light rain, light snow, cloudy, etc.). In the morning things will progressively get nicer as the day goes along.

-- Anyone that doesn't have firm engagements for Friday are encouraged to make a bunch of noise plus have extra poles out on the course!

General Notes for All USA Skiers

Friday Banquet

-- J.D. has two extra banquet tickets at the eleventh hour. First-come, first-served on these. I'll try and have them in my pocket at the stadium.

Reminder: Bad Serneus people for post-banquet: For Friday's banquet, there will be special buses leaving from the Klosters Platz train station along the Klosters - Saas - Kublis route every hour on the hour until 1am. We don't know that they'll absolutely stop at your hotel or the nearby stop -- but the guess is that your hotel will be the spot.

Reminder: Kessler's Kulm people for post-banquet: Looking at the regular local train schedule, all Kessler's people should have until just shy of 23:30 (11:30pm) to enjoy the banquet. The 23:30 train looks to stop at Wolfgang by 23:45 (a respectable bedtime).

ESM Logistics

-- The special ESM train set up specifically for the USA contingent leaves from Klosters Platz at 4:40am. You miss that train, there will be a general international train 12 minutes later. Yes it's wicked early. It'll take about 2 hours to get to our stop (it's just one hour back). Once we are we get to the end of the train portion, we'll hop on ESM buses to get to the start area. There are heated tents to hang out in plus a general amusement park vibe to soak up. You will find plenty of stuff to do while you wait for your wave start.

-- As the train is so early, those doing ESM will need a special bag or box breakfast from all hotels on Sunday morning. Silvretta already has this set up. For those at Kessler's J.D. will email the management to try and set something up. It would be really helpful if we can get ONE volunteer (please email J.D. if you are willing to be the one person for your hotel) from each of Bad Serneus (6-7 people), Steinbock (8-10 people, depends on Joanne/Jim's plans), Alpina (15 people), and Vereina (13 people) to please ask your hotel front desk on Friday morning to set up a special bag or box breakfast. J.D. still has a lot of meetings and tasks the next 48 hours so having others help in this regard will make sure arrangements are made in time.

-- Bad Serneus people getting to ESM morning train: The O.C. is setting up a shuttle van to pick up the 6-8 of you that will be doing ESM. Plan on getting picked up in the 4:15am (that time is now 100% firm).

-- Kessler's Kulm people getting to ESM morning train: You should be informed by others at the hotel of a bus that will take you to the Davos train station for the trip to the ESM start.

-- When you are done with ESM, you do not want to mess around in the finish area if you are scheduled for one of the Sunday afternoon USA buses down to Zurich. J.D. has the following as the worst case estimate for each USA bus.

Here's the ESM Start Schedule for easy reference.

Sunday USA Departure Bus "A" -- NEW!!! The bus will start loading at Kessler's at 3:30pm and complete the circuit of the hotels by 4:15pm. If you are at the other hotels, you should be ready and waiting by 3:45pm to immediately flag the bus when it pulls up.
Sample timeline....
-- If you are done with ESM by 11:30 you should allow one hour in the finish area to find your bag, change, and set up your return train ticket per your voucher. Done by 12:30pm.
-- The train ride back only takes one hour. Done by 1:30pm.
-- Go to hotel, get gear out of hotel piles, store your ski gear in your bags -- allow one hour. Done by 2:30pm.
-- Any extra time you should get some food and pack.

Sunday USA Departure Bus "B" -- NEW!!! The bus will start loading at Kessler's at 5:30pm and complete the circuit of the hotels by 4:15pm. If you are at the other hotels, you should be ready and waiting by 3:45pm to immediately flag the bus when it pulls up.
-- If you are done with ESM by 2:00 you should allow one hour in the finish area to find your bag, change, and set up your return train ticket per your voucher. Done by 3:00pm.
-- The train ride back only takes one hour. Done by 4:00pm.
-- Go to hotel, get gear out of hotel piles, store your ski gear in your bags -- allow one hour. Done by 5:00pm.
-- Any extra time you should get some food and pack.

Saturday and Monday Departure Transfers

-- The Saturday morning transfer is pretty basic. The order of the hotels on the Departure List (see top of this page) represents an educated guess at the order the bus company will use to pick everyone up at various hotels. Everyone at Kessler's Kulm should be ready to load at 7:30am. Everyone else should be ready by 7:45am -- but anticipate it could take until 8:20am for the bus to appear at your hotel.

-- The Saturday bus is exclusively going to Zurich airport. You can easily take hotel shuttles from the airport to your hotel if staying in Zurich.

-- The Monday buses are similarly listed in the rough order that the bus will pick-up. For the super early Monday transfer, you folks need to be ready at 4:45am (Kessler's) or 4:55am (all others). Plan to load quickly. Your schedule is very tight. The other two shuttles follow similar plans, just at two later times. Read the Departure List carefully!!!!

MISSING USA ITEM Missing one lightweight stuffsack type green and black backpack left in the team USA wax container Thursday AM. There was a grey and pink vest and some gloves in the bag. Did anyone pick this up by mistake? There was no ID on the bag. Silvretta Park Hotel Room 221, Charlotte Alexander.
